"My Wonderful Hippie Years"

Writing my article on the "New 60's fashions", I began reminiscing back to the days when I am proud to say, I was part of the "Hippie Generation", also referred to as the "Swinger Generation".

It was all about "Peace and Love". Our generation believed we could change the world.

We removed our bras, did many things that are now frowned upon and tried to free ourselves of all that we disdain. We hoped for a future where we could be free, have equality, and where wars would be a thing of the past.

We were the true "Flower Children". Our music, clothing, and love for all showed our changing attitudes toward society.

After this brief, but wonderful decade, came the "Yuppies". Their materialistic, conservative ways of thinking, seemed to undo everything we had hoped would last forever.

"Welcome Back To The 60's, With A Twist"

As you walk through some clothing stores, especially boutiques, this season, it is apparent you will be viewing styles of the 60's. There is definitely a twist or modernization to these fashions. I have seen the good, bad, and ugly resemblances which will forever be etched in my mind.

The florals seem to always appear every Spring. The neon brights show up in the large geometric prints, stripes, and are beyond bold.

What I really love are the chunky, large, platform heels, since I am a shoe lover, and the wilder the shoe, the better. I consider these to be works of art.

Being brought back in time, to this decade, brings back memories, both good and bad.

We must decide whether or not we want to partake in wearing these looks.
While the styles go back in time, it is unfortunate we cannot go back to our younger years to fully enjoy these vintage looks.

"Inspiration"

"Inspiration"

Being "inspired" can send our heart racing, our mind wandering, and motivate us to accomplish unbelievable goals.

Retiring several years ago, I have been feeling unproductive, and somewhat bored. I keep searching for projects to stimulate my already vivid imagination.
The other day, I read a simple statement, "What inspires you?" These three little words reflected back in time when I knew what direction to follow to achieve what I loved.

I believe, as we grow older, we can lose sight of our long, lost inspirations that kept us moving forward. Life gets in the way, and we can easily forget what we set out to conquer.

We must never lose our enthusiasm, as it encourages us to pursue all that is important in our journey. "What inspires you?"

"A Love Letter To My Husband"

As I lie here beside you, listening to every breathe you take, I cannot help but be so grateful for every day we have been together. After forty-one years of marriage, raising a child, enjoying two beautiful granddaughters, our lives have melded into one.

This wonderful blessing of sharing your life with someone who is always there for you, can be difficult. After all, we came together as two separate personalities, trying to adjust, and at times it can be trying.

Learning to compromise, and keeping still at times, we learn to read the other person. Bringing out the best in each other is a lifetime commitment. All the little things you do, show me your true dedication and love.

I love, admire, cherish, and thank you for all that you have done and all that you do. You are my soul mate and I cannot wait to spend the next forty-one years with you.

Your loving wife, partner, and other half,

Sherry

"Conservative" "My Most Distasteful Word"

Although this article is not a part of my former essays, I could not stop myself from voicing my opinions about this particular word.

All week long, the word "Conservative" has been used frequently in my presence. What does this word mean to me?  I recognize it as meaning extremely "limited." One who is of limited thinking, closed-minded. Being very liberal in my thinking,  I believe that "thinking out of the box," can solve problems, create solutions, and help mankind.

Where would we be if there was no one to "think out of the box" and come up with new inventions, new technology, drugs, etc.?

Why close ourselves off to any possibilities of aspiring to all that is aimed to better ourselves, should not be denied.
One person's opinion.

"Change=Evolving=Growth"

Think of all the possibilities, when you open your heart and mind to life.
It never ceases to amaze me why so many people prefer to keep the status quo and never want to make any changes in their lives. I would imagine that they feel safe in their comfort zone and that change scares them.

My thinking is that without change, we cannot grow and we remain complacent. Our experiences throughout our lives is what makes us stronger and, after all, isn't variety the spice of life?

Just think how boring life would be to never experience opening up to new challenges. How can one remain so stagnant and be so afraid to try new things?

Looking at issues from both sides allows you to be open and make better choices. Everyone has opinions and it is okay to disagree. By opening your mind to possibilities, you give yourself the freedom to expand your horizons and become more knowledgeable.

"Relationships"

From the moment we arrive here, to our last breath, our lives are given meaning by the relationships we form. Of course, not all of our relationships are going to be ideal.
Since our personalities differ, it is not always easy to have a satisfactory or enduring one.
In our lifetime, if we are lucky to find at least one loving person who accepts us for who we are and brings out our best, we are lucky.

Being emotionally, spiritually, physically, and mentally fulfilled is a blessing.
Sharing our life with that "special person", does require some work.

Never take anyone or anything for granted, and be grateful on a daily basis.
What you give to a relationship, you should hopefully receive in return.

Since life is a journey, where we continue to learn and gain wisdom, if we do not learn from our past mistakes, we will keep repeating the same patterns.

After all, loving and being loved, is what life is all about.

Be good to yourself, be kind to others.

A kind word goes a long way!
